Girls Soccer Cruises Past #12 Finneytown 8-0 to Advance in OHSAA Tournament
The Nighthawks finished the season 6-8-3 and played one of the toughest schedules in Ohio. They started postseason play on Thursday as they hosted #12 Finneytown in the District Quarterfinal. The last time the Nighthawks faced Finneytown was in 2020 when they defeated the Wildcats 9-0 in the second round of the OHSAA DV tournament.
CCDS got on the board early when Zoe Doerger '28 found the back of the net off of a pass from Liv Sweeney '27. Audrey de Alarcon '27 added a second goal with 30 minutes remaining in the first half, and from there on out the offense started to cruise. Shortly after, Josie Hyden '27 knocked in two goals at the 27- and 23-minute mark. The fifth Nighthawk goal came from Mia Kellenberger '27, her first of the season. After breaking away from defenders at midfield, Zoe Doerger cruised past the goalie to score her second goal of the night, putting the Nighthawks up 6-0. With 15 minutes to play in the first half, Audrey de Alarcon scored her second goal off a deflected shot. The game concluded one minute into the second half when the OHSAA mercy-rule came into play, which is when any postseason game will be finished once there is an eight-point score differential. The 8-0 win was the fifth shutout for goalie Alyssa Easter '26 this season and her eighth postseason shutout in her career! The Nighthawks play in the District Semifinals on Monday, October 20th, time and opponent TBD.
